  • Per garment: how much of each material one finished garment uses, in the unit you buy it in. Take fabric consumption from your marker or pattern.
  • Waste: an allowance for cutting loss, shrinkage and faults. Fabric usually needs more than trims.
  • Unit cost: optional. Add your own supplier prices to see the material cost per garment and for the whole order.

How to use the BOM template

  1. 01

    Pick a starting style

Choose the closest garment type and give the style a name and number. The template fills in the usual fabrics, trims, labels and packaging for it.

  2. 02

    Enter materials and consumption

Edit each line with the material, where it is used, its colour and how much one garment needs. Add or remove lines until the list matches your style.

  3. 03

    Set the quantity and export

Type your order quantity to see how much of each material to buy. Download the BOM as an Excel or CSV file, or print it, and send it with your tech pack.

Questions about bills of materials

What is a BOM in clothing production?

A bill of materials lists every component that goes into one garment: fabrics, linings, interlinings, trims such as zips and buttons, thread, labels and packaging. For each item it records where it is used, the colour, the supplier and how much one garment needs.

What is the difference between a BOM and a tech pack?

The tech pack describes how to make the garment: sketches, measurements, construction and finishes. The BOM is the part of it that lists the materials. Manufacturers use it to buy materials and to price the style.

How do I know the fabric consumption per garment?

It comes from the pattern and the marker, the cutting layout of all pattern pieces on the fabric width. Consumption changes with fabric width, size range and print direction, so confirm it once the pattern is made.

Can Flame prepare the BOM for my style?

Yes. Our pattern and sourcing team works out consumption from the marker, sources the fabrics and trims in Istanbul and prepares the BOM together with your tech pack. Send us your design or sample and we will take it from there.
